On Monday evening we arrived in Copacabana, a small town at the Titicaca lake at 3810m altitude…and yes, what we learned that THIS is actually the original Copacabana – after which our famous beach in Rio was named after much later on…

Instead of touring around the next day we decided to take it easy and to enjoy the day on the lake..then, in the evening we hiked up Mount Calvario for a great panoramic view and sunset. Bolivian superstition: Up on the mountain you can find anything and everything you desire to have in real life in miniature (mini cars, houses, husbands..) If you receive the miniature as a present, Bolivians believe to have the real version in one year’s time..generally, in Copacabana they also love to eat this big version of popcorn which you can find at street shops everywhere..!

Yesterday then we went on a boat trip on Lake Titicaca to “Isla del Sol” (Sonneninsel). We got off at the northern tip of the island and walked down to the south side in 5 hours. The altitude still kept us breathing!! The island is a very quiet, mythic place with a labyrinth of Inca ruins called “Chincana”.

Back in Copacabana we said Good-Bye to Bolivia and took an evening bus to the Peruvian border and further on to the town of Puno (well, getting out of Bolivia was a much easier task than to get in :-). And yes- this was our first night in Peru!
