When arriving in Kathmandu, our senses were definitely overwhelmed by all the sights, sounds und smells on Kathmandu’s dusty streets. At a first glance, Nepal reminds us very much of India- well, as “India light”…The old town of Kathmandu is full of super narrow roads (where you think the taxi could never, never squeeze through -but yes, they do), full of shops, markets and backpackers! Likewise traveling is extremely cheap here in Nepal and well prepared for tourists..

Luckily, the weather and temperatures here are very pleasant with 25 degrees and a nice warm breeze. Hence, we removed our winter clothes and started walking right away to see the city! First stop was the very iconic whitewashed “stupa” of Swayambhunath, a Buddhist shrine and also Unesco world heritage site. After climbing all the steps to the shrine, up there one has this perfect view of Kathmandu!! Then, we also went to see Nepal’s most important Hindu temple called Pashupatinath right on the banks of the holy river Bagmati, where a lot of Nepalis choose to be cremated after they have died. Just as we arrived, we actually witnessed a cremation ceremony from the other side of the river. Indeed a very special experience!
